He can’t play in the NFL these days, but apparently former pro quarterback and instigator of the “flag kneeling” controversy, Colin Kaepernick, is making corporate decisions for Nike.
On Tuesday the sports icon decided to throw away untold amounts of money developing, marketing, and shipping “Betsy Ross” sneakers — a shoe designed to celebrate our nation’s founding that was emblazoned with her famous colonial-era 13-star flag.
That flag — as well as the current 50-star U.S. flag — was just too “offensive” for Kaepernick, so Nike decided to pull the sneaker completely after millions of pairs had been shipped to stores.
In fact, as The National Sentinel reports, the shoes never even made it onto store shelves:
The Air Max 1 USA shoes were scheduled to go on sale this week to mark the nation’s 243rd birthday on July 4. However, the company suddenly asked retailers to return them…because Kaepernick decided that they were just too offensive.
As The Wall Street Journal noted further, the flag design was on the heel of the shoe to commemorate the flag she is credited with designing and making at the outset of America’s declaration of independence from Great Britain. The flag contains a circle of 13 five-pointed stars on a blue field next to 13 red and white stripes, to represent the original colonies.
“Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured the old version of the American flag,” a Nike spokeswoman told WSJ.
Why? Why would a colonial-era flag be offensive to one of the NFL’s most overrated QB’s? Oh, well, slavery, of course. The WSJ reported:
After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery, the people said. Some users on social media responded to posts about the shoe with similar concerns.

So, despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans would feel empowered by and proud of the design, because Kaepernick and a minority of America haters who continue to pretend like nothing’s changed in our country since the 1790s will get their way instead. (Related: Arizona Gov to Nike following decision to pull Betsy Ross shoes: ‘Don’t come to our state, we’re doing fine without you’.)
Mind you, Nike reported selling quite a bit of product after the company signed Kaepernick as a brand ambassador last year. So it’s not like this decision wasn’t based on any consideration at all.
But honestly, it seems that if most Americans feel pride in their country (and the election of POTUS Trump with his #MAGA message seems to at least be anecdotal evidence that is true), why would a company alienate the majority to placate a minority? Wouldn’t a company want to cater to, and sell to, as many people as possible?
“This is yet another example of how hysteria over ‘white supremacy’ and the presidency of Donald Trump is prompting corporate America to behave in increasingly bizarre ways,” writes Paul Joseph Watson at Infowars. “If even a version of the American flag is considered ‘offensive’ then what isn’t offensive at this point?”
Exactly.
There isn’t anything from our founding that the Left is either proud of or satisfied with. Ironically, they use the same rights and freedoms to express their disdain for our founders and country that those same founders bequeathed to them. And at a time when we’re supposed to be celebrating our founding.
You can’t make this lunacy up.
If you’re beginning to get the impression that there is no reconciling with these chronic America haters, you’re not alone. The only way to beat them is keep them out of power, and that requires political participation.
As Ronald Reagan once noted, we’re only one generation away from tyranny. Or, to paraphrase, one election.
